iPhone Forum / iPhone Chat / RIP 4G iPhone

Okay, okay, it’s a bit of old news and maybe not a huge surprise, but the 4 GB version of the iPhone has been discontinued at the same time that the 8 GB received the hefty price drop.
Are you disappointed, or do you know anyone who is disappointed, that it’s been dropped?

iPod Forum / iPod Chat / Nano’s new colours

What do you guys think of the Nano’s new colours? I like the blog comment that they look like they’re inspired by a candy shop. I think the red looks pretty good, but I don’t think it’s that popular? I’m not sure about the pastel blue and green. Looks a little weak. Also, they appear to be matte, not glossy? Haha, we should have a competition ‘pimp my iPod’ to draw some mad graphics on them. Like a red one with flames

News Section / iPod News / Nike+iPod Sport Kit = Big bucks?

Leaper Footwear has decided to sue Apple and Nike over the Nike+iPod Sport Kit.
Greg and Kenny Anderson, the founders of Leaper footwear, claim that the Sport Kit is in violation of a 1998 patent, which involves using sensors in your shoes to track your running/walking speed and distance.
Apparently, Leaper Footwear approached Nike with the idea in 2000, only to be rejected. In May 2006 a spookily similar product was launched through Apple and Nike. The Sport Kit includes a sensor fitted inside Nike+ shoes and a wireless receiver. When the receiver is plugged into an iPod Nano, statistics are displayed and feedback given. You can even upload your stats to the Nike+ website.
If Leaper wins the case, it’ll be a lot of dough for Nike and Apple.
What do you guys think? The Sport Kit looks pretty cool, I'd definitely use one. But I can see how Leaper Footwear would be a bit upset about this...

News Section / Apple News / Apple gets SUED!!

Does this sound new to you? I think not. Apple seems to be getting sued by everyone – big AND small.
Example A: Dongmei Li, New York, is suing Apple for one million dollars. She says that she has been discriminated against by Apple because she paid the full price – what, a rebate isn’t enough for you? It’s said that this is a violation of price discrimination laws, but there aren’t any statutes in place to protect consumers from price discrimination…
Example B: The European commission wants iTunes to have one flat rate for all European consumers, not different prices for different countries. Apparently they won against Microsoft. If Apple doesn’t work this out, they could be fined 10% of their global revenue, no mean sum. They say the inflexible price dictated by record labels are to blame.
Apple’s coming under attack, but do you think it is unjust?

iPhone Forum / iPhone Chat / Have you received spam on your iPhone?
|

I think one of the things that concerns me a little about the iPhone is the lack of security. Maybe I’ve been jaded by too many years using a PC and having to install firewalls and all that junk. And one of Apple’s major selling points to me is that you just don’t really get viruses on your operating systems. But I’m not convinced with the iPhone. I’m not convinced with Wi-Fi in general (maybe I’m old fashioned). Check this out: http://weblogs.redeyechicago.com/iphoneblog/2007/09/crap-spam-on-my.htmlHave any of you received spam or have worries about security on the iPhone?

iPhone Forum / iPhone Chat / Re: Apple's Dirty Little Secret

Hahaha... That's hectic. I can't believe Apple is so anal about this kind of thing.
The iPhone is a really complicated, sophisticated piece of equipment. Of course people are going to scratch it and dent it - It's got a touch-sensitive screen!!
I've also heard that some iPhones were manufactured with faulty screens, or screens that don't display colors correctly. People who take these phones for repair or exchange are charged $40 or something.
Naughty Apple!
On a side note, I love that bit 'We love you, love us'... Cute.

iPhone Forum / iPhone Chat / What features would you like to see on the iPhone?
|
on: October 04, 2007, 04:40:34 pm

Just going off the specs I’ve seen (I’m not special enough to own an iPhone yet ) there’s a few things I would add to the iPhone.
MMS Copy and paste sound recording/video recording ability to modify PDFs and Word docs, not just open them HEAPS better security.
Have any of these features been added yet and I'm just behind the times?
What features would you add to make iPhone the ULTIMATE?

News Section / iPhone News / Are you concerned about the updates?

Have you unlocked your iPhone? Do you have any 3rd party applications running on your iPhone?
I think Apple’s threat is pretty intense, bricking up phones that have been altered in any way at all. But if you think about it, if you do that to any sort of technology, like a digital camera or a laptop, of course you’re going to void your warranty.
It’s confirmed now that your iPhone will NOT work if you have modified it and downloaded the update. It’s also confirmed that if you have any 3rd party applications running on your iPhone, they won’t work either – regardless of whether or not you’ve modified the iPhone.
So what are you going to do? Not download the update?

News Section / iPod News / Starbucks and Apple - ‘Song of the day’?
|
on: October 02, 2007, 10:33:47 am
|
A little while ago it was announced that Starbucks would begin to distribute iTunes ‘song of the day’ cards. They estimate about 1.5 million cards will be distributed each day, ideally in 10 000 locations. They say each card will entitle the holder to one free single from iTunes (who wants to bet they’ll have Bob Dylan in there?) I’m just a little sus about this one. You only need to check out the video on the blog site (about iPod touch) to see a miniscule number of Starbucks cafes will be carrying them. Also, I’m a bit peeved about not being able to choose which artist I want to download the song from. What do you guys think about this? Are you going to race off to Starbucks and download the ‘song of the day’? Do you think it will make their coffee taste better?
