The iPhone is a very dynamic device and offers a very intuitive and revolutionary user experience. As part of the package the iPhone come pre-loaded with a bunch of applications designed to make life with your iPhone and away from your computer much easier.
To add functionality to your iPhone you are left with little options, there aren’t many iphone downloads as such. So far we will probably have to wait for whatever Apple decides to issue in their software updates; however there are a number of web-based applications that run on the iPhone.
When the iPhone was released there was no SDK (Software Development Kit.) Most phones have this so third parties can design and make applications to enhance phone’s capabilities. Apple didn’t because they thought it could compromise the stability of the iPhone. This led to the birth of an underground hacking community.
Through this community a number of utilities have been released which let you install applications onto your iPhone. This involves “jail breaking” the iPhone which Apple has said will void your warranty if you happen to “brick” (lock) the iPhone.
There are a number of iPhone utilities that will help you in installing applications that have been made from the hackers and aren’t too hard to find on Google if you really want to take the risk. However, for those of us not willing to risk ruining our shiny new toy rest at ease – Apple has announced that in January of 2008 it will be releasing a SDK to interested developers to make (legal) applications for your iPhone.
