A little while ago it was announced that Starbucks would begin to distribute iTunes ‘song of the day’ cards. They estimate about 1.5 million cards will be distributed each day, ideally in 10 000 locations.

They say each card will entitle the holder to one free single from iTunes (who wants to bet they’ll have Bob Dylan in there?)

I’m just a little sus about this one. You only need to check out the video on the blog site (about iPod touch) to see a miniscule number of Starbucks cafes will be carrying them. Also, I’m a bit peeved about not being able to choose which artist I want to download the song from.

What do you guys think about this? Are you going to race off to Starbucks and download the ‘song of the day’?

Do you think it will make their coffee taste better? Wink

I don't know about making their coffee taste any better!! but iTunes wi-fi was just launched today in Starbucks coffee shops in Seattle and New York.

I don't hold high hopes for this one. Apple better make some good song choices for the free download. If I was an Apple big wig, I'd let people download the songs featured on the iPod ads. People are ALWAYS asking 'oh what song is that on the ad?' It seems like a natural choice for them...

Do you know if you have to actually purchase a coffee to get the 'song of the day' card? I bet you do.

I think you do have to purchase some coffee or some type of product of any sort to get a card. Same goes with using their Wi-Fi. You have to buy something to get access. Plus, you look like an idiot if you randomly just go in with your iPhone or laptop without buying anything and sit down and start using their service.

Well, I think they have access numbers with each purchase now so if you don't buy, no code for wi-fi.

Yes there must be some code or some card for long term purpose else everyone would just come enjoy music check his/her mails and leave without paying anything.

I think that it is a wise business choice for them to do this and offer those songs available. Cross promotion is a way to get people into your stores that might not have already been customers. As you will notice there are a lot of business meetings conducted at Starbucks, there this is no surprise.
