The whole point of hacking or unlocking your iPhone is because you don’t want to use AT&T, right?
If so, then what’s the alternative to AT&T?

I can't vouch for other networks in the US, but I'm not going to be too pleased if Telstra gets the deal when the iPhone is launched in Oz...  Angry

I want my iPhone to work on the Verizon Wireless Network so bad. Their coverage is so much better than AT&T's and their 3G speeds are daunting! I guess if their LG Voyager "the supposed iPhone killer" is good, I will probably switch.

Unlocking the phone will allow you to be able to use the phone with multiple networks so that the phone can be used in more places around the globe. I think it was crazy to just go with one network on a deal. That should not have been the case, but they win and so does AT&T in this case because users had to change to that service to use the iPhone. I am sure that apply is getting huge residuals on the money payments.

I want a phone that works on every network.
And I want it to work even on networks on other countries.
A phone should never be locked.

If Apple was smart, they would've pushed for Verizon to get the iPhone too and have an iPhone with a SIM card slot and built in SIM for CDMA Verizon Wireless. That would have been a killer combination. I say on Ebay several Asian phones that copied the iPhone have these.
