Hey Dazzler

Hmm... Apple certainly seems to be playing the role of the ugly corporate giant in this one. I think the iPhone is definitely posing more problems for their customers than Apple expected.

I think the iPhone users need to take some responsibility for their actions. I mean, if you modify any kind of tech gadget, if you don't break it, of course you're going to void your warranty.

But having said that, Apple shouldn't have put customers in a position where they were tempted to unlock their phone in the first place.

I agree: Not Cool Apple Tongue

Apply is doing nothing different then I would expect them to do, they are protecting themselves, the iPhone brand and the AT&T. I do not understand why everyone is up in arms about them doing this when Microsoft did the same thing a few years back and no one made that big of a deal about it. I think that you have to protect your own products and if people do not want to play by the rules then the warranty should be voided.

Now I am not sure that making the phone inoperable was ok, I would like to know more information about that.

This is bad as I have to roam all over the world and apple is not making its phone tri band. So instead of buying a new phone in each country I find it much more easy to get my phone unlocked once.
Now there is nothing illegal here.

there are ways to make your phone work if it bricks.  it doens't work 100% of the time, but its def worth a try before buying another phone.  google iphone hacks, or bricking, and you'll find your answers Wink

ok....let me set the record straight.  I work at an Apple store that is EXTREMELY close to the Canadian border (less than 30 minutes)  ok so this whole iPhone issue is because they bought tons of iPhones with cash and kept doing it and then resold the unlocked iPhones to some unfortunate people in Canada or on ebay for way more than $400 who didn't know anything about the consequences of unlocking and when they got thier updates (which happen when you plug your phone in to add songs and sync things) boom, their iPhone was a sexy $700 brick.  The credit cards are a way for our customers to have someone to go to when we can't help them.  Apple is NOT wrong trying to prevent this bad experience for their customers.  All the Canadiens that want the iPhone have ruined it for the rest of us!  So Apple can do whatever they want to try to help their customers.  Trust me, when some 12 year old kid brings in his hacked brick of an iPhone and is in tears....it sucks that we have to turn him or anyone else away because of someone who took his money and never told him as soon as you unlock the phone, there is absolutly no warranty whatsoever.  SO....Apple is not the bad guy here.  Oh and btw....if you are an American citizen, you can fill out paperwork to give authorization for you to have more than 2.  Canadiens will automatically get denied....for obvious reasons.  Also, they will not accept any other form of payment than a card with your name imprinted on it with the visa, matercard, discover, or Amex logo on it.  So you can forget gift cards, checks, prepaid credit cards, etc.   So yea please research your answers to problems before you go and tell someone online to go buy a gift card or something.  Why cant all you Canadians just wait a few months for the iPhone and stop making Apple look bad and making my day at work for the best company in the world, hell? Angry

So yea....this should answer any doubts you may have about why they did this.
