Which is the other comapany and model which you love the most apart from Apple.
My personal favorite is Sony Walkman series.
They really provide great Bass.

I heard the Sony music players sound awesome too. I think a competing company would be Creative Labs and maybe Archos. Toshiba has came out with the Gigabeat which I heard blew the iPod out of the universe. I've tried it and it overally seems very good.

Well, while there is a difference in audio quality between different mp3/whatever players....the main factor limiting a decent quality and awesome quality sound is your medium of listening to the music played, whether it is the speakers or the headphones being used.
That's just my 2 cents.
